San
Luis Obispo County
Coordinated Human Services –
Public Transportation Plan
San Luis Obispo Council of
Governments (SLOCOG), CA
(2007)
For this central coastal county of
250,000 residents and 3,600 square
miles, in response to SAFETEA-LU
coordinated plan requirements
AMMA Transit Planning undertook
extensive outreach and surveying
activities, prepared a demand
estimate for the three target
populations, and performed need and
resource assessments to develop this
coordinated plan. Outreach
efforts to over 400 agencies
resulted in participation by almost
200 individuals, both agency
representatives and consumers. The
resulting plan established three
goals: Coordination Structure,
Building Capacity, and Information
Portals. The fifteen implementing
objectives defined were accompanied
by dozens of possible strategies by
which identified needs could be
addressed. When the San Luis Obispo
Council of Governments (SLOCOG)
Board adopted the plan, they
established a new position, Regional
Mobility Manager, to develop the
plan's direction and build new
partnerships between the region's
public transit operators and the
larger human service agencies with
transportation funding.
